John is a member of the city-wide committee to establish a skateboard & bikers area at one of our local parks. It's in Pier Park (just across from Mr. G's carwash). This picture is from a front page article in our local paper about the committee and how they've promoted getting the skatepark area built. (John is on the far right side)
Below are some pictures taken Oct 5, 2001 just after the ramps were completed. John was showing his grandparents his riding skills. He's in an orange shirt and has a white helmet on. Notice the helmet has a wrap-around feature that protects his mouth now!
John's Dad and Grandfather are also named John Osenbaugh; here's pictures of the three of them together.
John in June 1987. (He got his first haircut the following November....)
First day of school--8-16-01. His Sophomore year at Northwest High School.
These two pictures are the same part of the ramps. He rides up the ramp and stops on top before heading back down.
John shows his Uncle Lee (his namesake) how he rides the ramps when Lee came to visit in October 2001
John turned 16 on January 20--but it was a Sunday, and the next day was a state holiday (Martin Luther King day) so he couldn't get his driver's license until the 22nd! Here he is, holding proof that he can legally go out by himself. He's heading back to school after I took him out at lunch to pick it up and give him the car....
And, in July 2002 he had his new (1984) Fiero.
John went to Arizona to be treated for a Brain Tumor discovered April 2, 2004
John graduated with honors from Grand Island Senior High School
John lost his battle with cancer on October 16, 2004.
We are all so very sad........
John was diagnosed with a brain tumor in April 2004. He had surgery to remove most of it at Barrows Neurological Institute in Phoenix. He also had radiation treatments and chemotherapy to combat the growing tumor, and returned home in July.
John developed a second tumor in September, this time on top of his brain stem. It grew quickly and the doctors were hesitant to do another surgery. We had planned on radiation at University of Omaha Medical Center, but he became weaker and was not able to make the trips.
John died early in the morning October 16, 2004 surrounded by family and friends.
First day of school, August 20, 2003--last year in high school! He bought this Jimmy because his bike wouldn't fit in the Fiero.
